How to get here

Want to spend more than a day in Opal Creek? We rent out our cabins during our programming season, mid-April through mid-November. See what we offer.

Policies

Food, Cooking & Recycling

The kitchens in our cabins are fully equipped for cooking and food prep. We will dispose of recyclable paper, plastic, metals, glass and other trash. We also provide compost buckets for all food scraps. We truck all recycling and garbage out of Jawbone to Salem. This is very resource-intensive, so please work to reduce your waste as much as possible. Any waste you can take out with you is appreciated.

Driving

Remember that getting to Jawbone Flats requires some rough travel. The mountain roads that lead to the trailhead require lower speeds, especially during inclement weather or at night. Adjust your departure time accordingly. Our gear shuttle will typically wait for you at the gate for 30 minutes. If you miss the gear shuttle you are responsible for packing in your own gear. If you are not able to bring in your own gear, one of our staff will retrieve it from your vehicle at our next convenience. Please keep in mind that depending on activities at Jawbone this may be as late as the day following your arrival. Please be on time!

Be aware you will be driving on ten miles of gravel road and flat tires are common. Bring a car jack and a spare tire. If you do encounter delays on the way, you can call our office at (503) 892-2782 during regular office hours (M-F, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.). The last phone on the way is at the Swiss Village Restaurant located at the junction of Route 22 and Little North Fork Road. There is no cell phone reception once you turn off onto the North Fork Road. If you anticipate delays, please call at least one half-hour before the original arrival time if possible. Typical driving times are as follows: Salem- 1.5 hrs., Portland- 2 hrs., Eugene- 2.5 hrs., Bend- 3 hrs.

Pets
