The Opal Creek Wilderness is getting formally inducted into the Old-Growth Forest Network! Join us on Thursday, July 11 at 10am for a short dedication ceremony followed by guided hikes into Jawbone Flats for light refreshments. We will meet at the Opal Creek trailhead and the ceremony will take place at the Gold Creek bridge, a short hike from the parking area. For more information please contact Katie Ryan at kryan@opalcreek.org.
The Old-Growth Forest Network (OGFN) is working to create a national network of protected, mature, publicly accessible forests. The goal is to preserve at least one forest in every county in the United States that can sustain a forest. There are nearly 100 forests in 21 states included in the Network to date. The full list of forests may be viewed at www.oldgrowthforest.net/dedicated-forests. We’ll be representing one of the first forests in Oregon added along with Cummins Creek Wilderness and Cook’s Ridge Trail. This will bring the Network over the 100th forest milestone!
