The Beachie Creek fire of 2020 burned much of the beloved Opal Creek Wilderness, including most of the historic buildings in our base of operations, Jawbone Flats. Due to wildfire damage, the Opal Creek Trailhead and Jawbone Flats are inaccessible and closed.

Just as the forest regenerates, so will Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center. With devastation comes opportunity. Over the coming years, we’ll re-envision a site and education programs inspired by our transformed surroundings.

Our mission continues in the new landscape: we provide transformative wilderness experiences that grow a community of environmental advocates.
